The Garden

Previous Page

Located in the « Barthes » of the Adour River, La Petite Escalère spreads out on 69 acres of prairies, forests and peat bogs. These cultivated low lands, which are at an average of one meter below water level are used as a huge water reservoir during river flooding.

With heavy rainfall, les “Barthes” of the Adour River are subject to flooding, and the garden and collection of La Petite Escalère experience the beauty, as well as the recurring and devastating consequences of this natural process. With a particularly rich flora and fauna, La Petite Escalère is located in a Natura 2000 protected zone.
