Born in 1986 in Germany, Sarah Bahr first studied at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies at the University of Gießen under the direction of Heiner Goebbels. She completed her training at ENSBA, Lyon National School of Fine Arts, where she was the recipient of the “Charles Dufraine” Award in 2010 and the “Prix de Paris” in 2011.
She has since taken her work in a variety of directions, combining visual arts, poetry and stage direction.
She was a resident at the Cité Internationale des Arts in 2011-2012. In 2011, her work was featured at the « Biennale de Lyon en Résonnance à Paris ». In 2012, she was the laureate of the « Lyon Playwright Festival » award. The same year, her work was included in the « Salon de Montrouge » and in multiple group shows such as Les Enfants du Sabbat XIII at the Creux de l’Enfer, Thiers, New Romantics at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, at the Marbrerie, Montreuil and at the Maison d’art Bernard Anthonioz, Nogent-sur-Marne.
In 2013, she centers her work around writing and performance : she is part of the « actOral » festival in Marseille, writes and directes A Martian’s Pain, a theatrical performance at the Subsistances in Lyon. She also publishes her texts in numerous reviews (La Gazette des Jockeys Camouflés, If, Initiales, Nioques). Today, she carries on her investigation of performative writing through a collaboration with the theatrical platform Locus Solus, (dir. Thierry Bordereau) around the pervasiveness of the notion of « survival ».
Sarah Bahr is on the editorial board of S/V, a biyearly review dedicated to contemporary visual arts and creative writing. Since 2013, she teaches at the National Fine Arts School in Lyon.
