Lancelot Hamelin is a writer. Novelist and playwright, he has recently engaged in journalistic and non-fictional work, publishing texts in magazines and reviews such as Les Inrockuptibles, Vacarme, Libération, 491, Institutions… His first novel, Coup de feu d’octobre, was published by L’Arpenteur-Gallimard in August 2012.

His plays have been published by Théâtre Ouvert (Alta Villa—Contrepoint, 2008) and Quartett (Vraiment un homme à Sangatte, foreword by Hélène Cixous, 2010, Ici Ici Ici followed by Journal de Charbon, 2011, Un Grain de figue, 2013). He has worked in collaboration with several directors : Mathieu Bauer (Alta Villa – Contrepoint, in 2007 at the Théâtre Ouvert, Paris, Tristan et… in 2009 at the Subsistances, Lyon), Frédéric Maragnani (Où, les cœurs ? in 2010 at the Subsistances), Jacques Taroni and François Wastiaux (Shoot the Freak ! in 2012 at the Théâtre Ouvert), Éric Massé (Mythomanies Urbaines in 2011 at the Comédie de Valence and the Comédie de Saint-Étienne, Club Mythos in 2011 at the Comédie de Valence) and Christophe Perton (Le Procès de Bill Clinton in 2009 at the Comédie de Valence, prologue to La Folie d’Héraclès, Euripide, in 2010 at the Théâtre du Vieux Colombier – Comédie Française, Paris). He is part of the Comédie de Valence artists collective, where he has written scores for Une Chambre en ville and La Place du mort, among others.

In 2013, he was invited to be part of Lincoln Center’s “Director’s Lab” in New York, a yearly developmental program for nurturing outstanding stage directors, playwrights, actors and set designers from around the world.

From May 2014 to June 2016, he harvested dreams, in Nanterre and elsewhere. This project, hosted by the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre (93) and supported by the Région Île-de-France, led him to another project around dreams and dreamers, at the French Academy in Rome, the Villa Medicis where he will be a resident for a year, starting September 2016.
