Léonor de Récondo was born in 1976 and started playing the violin at age five. Her talent is quickly noticed and France Television releases a program on her when she’s still just a teenager. At eighteen she receives the Lavoisier scholarship from the French government, which allows her to study at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. While studying, she becomes solo violinist of the N.E.C. Boston Symphony Orchestra. After graduating three years later, she returns to France where she creates the Arezzo string quartet. With the support of the association ProQuartet, she perfects her skills with masters such as the Amadeus Quartet or the Alban Berg Quartet. Her curiosity then turns to baroque music and she studies this new repertoire for three years with Sigiswald Kuijken at the Brussels Conservatory. Since then, she has worked with some of the most prestigious baroque ensembles (Les Talens Lyriques, Le Concert d’Astrée, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Le Concert Spirituel). From 2005 to 2009, she joins the ensemble Les Folies Françoises and explores, among others, the classical string quartet repertoire. In February 2009, she is appointed musical director of Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas, directed by Jean-Paul Scarpitta at the Opéra National of Montpellier in France. In April 2010 she works with singer Emily Loizeau on a production mingling baroque and contemporary music.
Léonor de Récondo was first violin under the direction of Vincent Dumestre (Le Poème Harmonique), Cohën-Akenine (Les Folies Françoises), Enrico Gatti, Ryo Terakado, Sigiswald Kuijken. In 2004, she wins the International Van Wassenaer Festival and Competition.
In 2005, along with tenor singer Cyril Auvity, she creates L’Yriade, a baroque chamber music ensemble specialized in the forgotten repertoire of cantatas. A first critically acclaimed CD on the Orpheus myth is released under the Zig-Zag Territoires label, and a second one of Giovanni Bononcini cantatas in July 2010 (Ramée). Léonor de Récondo has recorded over a dozen CDs (Deutsche Grammophon, Virgin, K617, Alpha, Zig-Zag Territoires) and participated to several DVDs (Musica Lucida).
Her first novel, La Grâce du cyprès blanc (Ed. Le temps qu’il fait) is released in October 2010. Her second novel Rêves Oubliés (Ed. Sabine Wespieser éditeur), a story of exile during the Spanish Civil War, is published in 2012.
