Residency Program

The purpose of residencies at La Petite Escalère is to offer writers, visual artists, landscapers, architects, art historians, film-makers, dancers and musicians a space of silence and peace in a unique natural and artistic environment favorable to inspiration, reflection, research and creation.

At the crossroads between the Pyrenees, the Atlantic coast, and the rural regions of South Western France, La Petite Escalère is close to Bilbao, San Sebastian, Biarritz, as well as Toulouse and Bordeaux. The size and the diversity of the land, and the collection of modern and contemporary sculptures and installations allow our residents to develop their projects in outstanding working conditions, absolute peace, and freedom.

Due to the history of the site and of its collection, the residencies are usually focused on landscape and nature and their ties with art, past and present. However, residents’ research topics are in no way meant to be restricted to these lines of reflection.

With the collaboration of residents, LPE will issue a yearly publication documenting our residencies.

The LPE residency program is implemented thanks to Les Amis de La Petite Escalère with the support of the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication – DRAC Aquitaine and the Région Aquitaine. La Petite Escalère is a member of the French federation of artist residencies Arts en résidence – Réseau National.
